67 Almshouse: One Year After Move In

 

Time flies when you’re having fun! It’s hard to believe it’s been one year since we got the keys to move in to the newly renovated 67 Almshouse, and it’s been two and a half years since the fire that forced our operations into my home for 18 months.

If you’re new here, here’s a quick recap…

I’ll never forget that day in March 2021.

In March 2021, a terrible fire destroyed 67 Almshouse, the building we were renting for our workroom and offices. Thankfully, no one was hurt. And, thanks to our cloud-based project management system, we were able to resume operations and start replacing product within 48 hours of the fire.

We worked from my home for the next 18 months.

It wasn’t always easy, but we made it work!

Business increased exponentially while we were working from my home, and we were often bursting at the seams with boxes, fabrics, hardware, and materials. Then, in April 2022, my husband and I closed on the purchase of 67 Almshouse, the same building that we previously rented that burned down.

Renovations began right away! We completely gutted the building, combining two storefronts into one, raising ceilings and dropping floors.

Then in October 2022, we officially got the permits and keys to start moving in! Renovations continued, but the whole team was excited to move it and start setting up operations at the new Vitalia Inc Studio + Workroom.

So what have we been up to for the past year? Living the dream, baby!

My 2023 word of the year is “Team”.

67 Almshouse is a dream come true. Not only does my team have a beautiful place to work and fabricate the beautiful custom window treatments (and so much more!) for our clients, but we’ve been able to use the space to…

  • Welcome designers and clients for selections meetings.

  • Host Lunch & Learns for local designers and architects.

  • Organize an emerging CEO Mastermind meeting for local designers.

  • Offer VIP Experience Days for window treatment colleagues.

  • Continue to grow my team.

  • Increase our capacity and capabilities as the go-to full-service custom workroom in Philly, NJ, and beyond.

A dream come true.

We’ve continued to update, change, and make improvements to our studio and to our systems and processes over the past year.

Everything is a work in progress, and we’re always looking for ways to work more efficiently and provide even better support for our designers and clients.

We also made time to install our new sign, plant a garden, finally got siding on the building, and oh, yeah, had an epic Grand Opening Party this past spring!

I’m filled with gratitude as I look back this month at how far we’ve come…and feeling excited about the future and its possibilities.
