How To Dress Your Doors

NEW email header.png

Hey hey friend! Did you catch the virtual IDA gala last week? The IDA’s are the Oscar’s of the Interior Deisgn industry and I look forward to it every year! Even though we weren’t able to be together in person for the awards, the ASID IDA virtual gala was so well done and the work submitted was so incredible. Congratulations to all the winners!

The hubby and I celebrated this weekend as well…a rare moment without kids for some adult time! We took advantage of the glorious weather here in the Northeast and had a fabulous lunch at Rocco on the Grill in Newtown complete with mimosas!

How do you like to take advantage of beautiful weather? Have you been able to make time for relaxation? I’d love to hear all about it! Email me at vita@vitaliainc.com – I read and respond to every email I receive.

Tips on dressing doors in your design projects!

Doors: Chances are you’ve had one or two in your design projects. How do you treat them? How do you cover them or compliment them without sacrificing functionality? There are a multitude of treatment types for doors, but there are a few things you need to consider when choosing the right treatment for your doors…

In or Out: How the Doors Open Matters

One of the most important things to pay attention to when planning treatments for your doors is noting which way the doors open. Do they open out, or do they open in? This will make a huge impact on what treatment styles will be appropriate while still allowing the doors to function.

The Right Hardware Makes All the Difference

There are many things your workroom will need to take notice of when planning and measuring for door treatments, and choosing the right hardware to accommodate the measurements is the key to a successful installation.

How much clearance is available on either side of the door, as well as ceiling clearance, are factors that should be measured and considered when choosing treatment types and hardware for mounting.

Yes, You Can Mix Treatment Types

Go ahead, mix it up! Depending on the look your client is interested in, you may want to consider treatment types in the same room or even on the doors themselves! To hide hardware, some clients opt to have a custom cornice installed over the operable drapery. Windows in the same room can have complementing treatments fabricated, but can be a different style. This provides a cohesive look but still allows for custom solutions!

When installing cornices over doors, we must consider head clearance as well as any crown molding. The cornice must be high enough that it doesn’t interfere with going in and out of the doors, but many times this can put the cornice in contact with the crown molding.

Never fear, your custom workroom is here! We have actually scribed the back of the custom cornice to sit flush on the crown molding when it is installed.
