Tips For Selling Window Treatments

Hello, hello, Friend!

Last week was full of exciting events! I celebrated my 45th birthday, and shared a video that summed my life up in 15 seconds…check it out !

A few highlights from my journey:

I was born and raised in Ukraine. I came here as a rotary exchange student in 1991 when I was only 15.

Out of college , I went to work for corporate America, where I stayed for 10 years, managing multi-million dollar P&L’s. I realized it wasn’t for me. But I also credit it for teaching me how to run a business, understand financials, and develop marketing strategies.

I’m married to my best friend ❤️ ! His name is Vitali. My name is Vitalia. Yes, we have the same name. He is also from Ukraine. No, we didn’t plan it that way. We have two wonderful kids – a boy and a girl.

I started this business in 2006. Truth be told, I didn’t know anything about window treatments. Nor did I have a rich uncle, who managed building projects and rolled out a red carpet for me. I did it from scratch. Grass roots. One hand shake at a time. Pounding the pavement.

I am so proud of my business and how it has grown over the past 15 years! It was such an honor to be chosen for the Window Fashion Vision Magazine cover as part of their Workroom Competition awards – Vitalia Inc took 2nd place for Specialty Window Fashions! What fantastic news to receive the week of my birthday.

To round out my birthday week celebrations, Vitali and I enjoyed a kid-free getaway to Cape May! A little coffee, a little shopping, taking in the beautiful scenery…I was one happy birthday girl.

In addition to a busy & wonderful week, I’m excited to share this week’s blog topic: How To Sell Window Treatments. I joined LuAnn Nigara for a new episode of Window Treatment Friday on her A Well-Designed Business podcast where we discussed our top tips for selling window treatments to your clients. Enjoy and be sure to let me know what you think and your best practices!

I hope you are enjoying this transition into Fall, and what I am sure is a busy time of the year for you! I’d love to hear what you are up to – let’s chat soon. Call me anytime at 267.228.7378 or email vita@vitaliainc.com.

Selling Custom Window Coverings

You know why you should sell window treatments to your clients, but do you struggle with how to sell window treatments? I recently joined LuAnn Nigara of A Well-Designed Business podcast on her series Window Treatment Friday where we tackled this very topic.

This is the very first thing that needs to happen when you are selling Window Treatments. You need to know, believe, and own the fact that Window Treatments are not only an investment, but that they are worth it.

“Expensive” is what LuAnn and I refer to as a fake word. It is a totally relative term that means different things to different people in different situations.

Do not think of custom window treatments as “expensive”, think of them as an investment that enhances the overall design and something that is necessary. Be ready to explain the value that custom window treatments provide!

Once you have the right mindset, be confident. You can’t sell the investment needed for custom window treatments if you can’t speak with confidence and assurance that a custom window treatment is absolutely worth the cost.

If you don’t have an understanding of why custom window treatments cost what they do, just ask! Your workroom will be happy to explain the detail and craftsmanship that go into a custom-made drapery and how it differs from one that can be purchased off the shelf.

Once you know what goes into the design, fabrication, and installation of custom window treatments, you can stand in front of your client and confidently explain why they cost what they do and why they are a necessary part of the design for the space.

This is an important one. Don’t treat window treatments as an afterthought. They should be included as a line item in the overall scope of the design project.

Because custom window treatments represent a significant investment, it will be harder to add them on as an addition after providing a budget estimate. You wouldn’t forget to include the kitchen design in your design budget for your client, and window treatments should be just as important!
